1964 International Harvester 3414 Backhoe/Loader

This is Leaky Laura our 1963 or 4 International Harvester 3414 loader backhoe. It is based on the B-Series International tractors and has a 36hp diesel engine. The B-Series tractors were made in England, shipped to Canada for assembly and to the USA for final assembly - A world tractor!

We believe this tractor was originally purchased by a municipality, then by a farmer. In the mid 1970's my brother's father-in-law purchased it to assist building his house. Years of abuse had taken its toll and Jack was forced to do a total rebuild - something he was suited to do as a top aerospace engineer for Pratt & Whitney. The tractor was completely disassembled, gone through and the engine rebuilt. He also painted much of the chassis and body. Unfortunately other events intervened and took priority and the tractor sat on a back burner.

When it came to me it needed work on the hydraulic and injection systems as well as a lot of re-assembly. However, a testament to the excellent work Jack performed, it now has several hundred hours on it and works great. It has been a tremendous asset helping me totally transform our property.
